I bought this this El Camino from the original owner 20 years ago and I have done much to it over that time. It is a very nice cruiser with a 350 ci / 5.7 liter throttle body fuel injection V8 engine and 700r4 overdrive transmission from a 1993 Chevy Caprice. It has period correct slotted dish mag wheels, BF Goodrich TA radials and dual glass-pack mufflers. It runs and drives nice and there are only a few thousand miles on the rebuilt suspension, shocks, brakes and tires, less than that on a new radiator, alternator and battery. The paint is nice and is about 10 years old. There are a few minor scuffs and scrapes, which have occurred at automotive shops, since I have otherwise kept it garaged and covered. Most of these could be buffed out. In the spirit of full disclosure, there has been some minor bondo work on the car at some point in its nearly 47 year history. I have intended to complete it with a new interior but have never got to that. I have accumulated all the necessary trim parts to convert it to black interior. I also have new black lower door panels, arm rests, sun visors, glove box cover and headliner. I have some better condition upper door panels which need to be re-upholstered in black and the seats need to be re-upholstered in black. All these parts are included with the car. All that would be left to do is a new black dash cap and some black vinyl paint on the lower dash and the conversion would be complete. Other things that still need to be done:The speedometer and gas gauge and interior fan do not currently work. The hood hinges could use replacing, as the hood does not seat as well as it used to. The doors and windows work fine but could use some adjustments. It is a factory A/C car and has all the parts there. It just needs a new hose to connect the ’93 compressor to the ’73 system. It is not perfect but overall it is a nice looking, nice cruising, driver quality classic El Camino. I get a lot of thumbs up wherever I go. This is a great classic for the price and just needs a new owner enjoy it as is, or take it to the next level. |
