The Martini Racing Stripe and Graphics are a vinyl material and can be easily removed if the buyer would prefer an all white exterior. I purchased this Spyder directly from Seduction Motorsports (they closed shop in late 2018, subsequent bankruptcy filing in April 2019). If you were not aware of Seduction Motorsports, with a quick google search you will see a number of articles and write ups about them from Robb Report, Flat Sixes, and even USA Today. Seduction Motorsports purchased the frames and fiberglass bodies from Vintage Motorcars in California then Seduction would take the bodies and frame and start the build using a mixture of off the shelf parts and some of their own fabricated touches. Typical build time would be 10 months, but by the time they closed shop the waits were closer to 18 months. Hard to tell how many of these were really built, I heard close to 100, but also heard a lot of them went overseas but I have the feeling most of that data was embellished a bit by Seduction. Hard to tell how many are really here in the states, I would guess less than 50. I have met just a few other owners online over the time I have had mine, less than I can count on one hand. Two of these that were brand new sold on Bring a Trailer in 2018 and 2017, one for $60K the other for $69K, neither had the $10K Subaru engine upgrade. Both sold while Seduction was still in business so the wait time may have driven the price up a bit. I listed this one on BAT this summer but it did not hit the reserve. If you are not wanting attention, do not purchase this car. I have never driven it where I was not photographed, talked to at the gas pump, or even while sitting at a stop light. The main two questions I get is “What is that?” and then “Is it real?”. I do get a chuckle when I tell them that Porsche made like 90 of these, they are selling for $6MM+, so no, I did not drive a real one over to Home Depot to pick up a light bulb. LOL. Even though this one does not cost $6MM, you do get up front parking anywhere and instant access to any car show, no matter how exclusive, and in most instances, more interest and conversations than the guys parked next to you with cars costing 3 to 10 times as much. Look at the last picture in the listing. That is the little Spyder behind the ropes parked next to a gang of McLarens including a new Senna. The show parked me there, I did not ask to be put there. Driving this thing is like driving a large go cart on the street. Although I assume it drives much better than a real one, it is nothing like a modern sports car. Even though these only weigh roughly 1400lbs, I hate to say it that with the VW engines, they still felt slow. At 50-60mph, they would barely get out of it’s own way. This one will MOVE. With the Subaru engine it is as quick as a modern base 911, and does not break a sweat to accelerate in any gear at just about any speed. With that said, this is not like owning a modern car. If you are not mechanically inclined, please befriend someone that is before you buy one of these. Good news is that most of the parts are Vintage VW or older Subaru so the parts are cheap. With any non-mass-produced vehicles, you will constantly be tweaking things here and there. Stuff will break, stuff will leak, it is just part of the ownership experience…just like owning one of the coolest cars in town will be part of the ownership experience.
