This is numbers matching 1961 Corvette Roadster 283 cc 315 hp with factory fuel injection, four speed transmission, power windows, and optional hardtop. Numbers matching just means that the engine block number also includes part of the VIN number. The car is Sateen Silver with Ermine White coves and red interior, the soft top is black and the optional hardtop is sateen silver with a white headliner. The paint is in great shape. The hubcaps and body emblems are brand new. All the chrome is in excellent pit-free condition and shines beautifully. The car is garage kept and under a car cover (included) with a trickle charger on battery. All the gauges are as original, work and illuminate, including the cigarette lighter, and courtesy dash light. The high beam indicator and emergency brake warning lights work and flash. The glove box has the correct GM Paint maintenance sticker inside the door, the dashboard and drivers door mirrors are all new and carry the "Guide manufacturer" stamp. The car has the correct hardware GM used for installing the sun visors. The seat belts are the correct lite orange 4 panel belt (late 1961 VIN) and have the exact reproduction of the labels sewn on each belt by "Irving Air Chute" and the buckles have the stamped patent numbers. The seats covers, carpet, trunk mat and trunk divider (which has the Westinghouse stamp) are matching red to the interior and purchased from Al Knoch. The radio is a 100% replica wonder bar but includes FM stations. The FM stations are recessed behind the AM stations so as to not be visible at first glance. The clock is quartz. I have the original radio, speaker and clock but both would need to be rebuilt. The spare tire board and bolt are original and the board has replica GM jack instructions, and POSI-Trac warning decals. The jack and jack handle are original GM 1961 Corvette. Few are aware but GM offered am emergency tool kit with 3 Drop Forged wrenches, a Drop Forged hammer. 2 Drop Forged screw drivers and a spark plug wrench, which I have in the trunk. The rebuilt engine has approximately 6,000 miles and is complete with all the factory stickers and emblems and correct upper and lower radiator hoses with the part numbers stamped in white. The engine compartment has all the GM factory decals on the radiator overflow tank, the oil cap. the generator and two on the radiator are exact reproductions of the original (Corvette Central, Eckers or Paragon). The fuel injection system was completely rebuilt by Lyle Davidson two years ago (Lyle has youtube videos). The engine purrs like a kitten when standing beside the engine compartment but walk to the rear and the GM factory road pipes give the car a sound sweeter than any Harley. The only thing not correct in the engine compartment is the Interstate Battery where an AC/Delco Battery with yellow caps for adding water to the cells was original, and I have a spin on oil filter instead of the cannister. I also have the correct Positive traction differential housing but it is not installed. That was literally like finding a needle in a hey stack because GM used one differential for the Corvette and another for all the other vehicles. The positive traction differential for Corvette was casted with all tall thin "P", and it has to have the correct casting number, and assembly date that matches the VIN and the vehicle build date (i.e., the differential assembly date was one or two months before the vehicle). Other than the radio which looks original I have gone to great links to get this car 100% as GM delivered it. At 110 mph the car sits on the road with absolutely no vibration or pulling, pretty amazing for 1961 technology. The running lights are all stamped with the "Guide" as originally equipped. This car was loved and driven regularly on weekends. It tool 2nd in Carlisle, and the four other times I entered it in a show I left with a trophy.I have the original Owners Manual, Maintenance Coupon Book in the original Envelope, and the original GM OEM Shop Manual that are foldout pages in a 3-ring binder build book. All the original 1960 and 1961 magazines where the Corvette was road tested, all the original GM promotion pamphlets and flyers that were mailed out or provided in the dealership in 1961. GM ran a single marketing campaign with full page ads, I have all the ad pages. I have spend years and years researching and chasing down everything that has made this Corvette truly unique. |
