This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am shows just over 59k miles and is optioned with a factory 400ci V8, 4-speed manual transmission, and T-tops. Fewer than 3,000 T/As were made with this power train and trim combination, and this white over red example is also equipped with factory WS6 performance suspension and air conditioning. Assembled at GM’s Van Nuys plant and sold new in St. Loui, hi-po power train option, dual exhaust, and Edelbrock intake manifold. The car is sold with a clean Florida title. An older repaint in white has replaced the original Platinum according to its trim tag, and the driver-level finish retains a nice shine overall. Scuffs, edge chipping, and other signs of age are detailed in the pictures, Factory 5-color “screaming chicken” and “T/A 6.6” decals were reapplied along with Trans Am logos, some of which are showing their age. Cars equipped with the WS6 package received dished 15×8″ “snowflake” wheels, here wearing older BFGoodrich white-letter rubber. Sheet metal appears largely straight aside from a shallow dent in the passenger door bottom and rippling visible on close inspection in the lower edges. Superficial corrosion is visible on the front license plate bracket, under a fender arch, and in rocker seams. A number of bubbles can be seen in the lower passenger-side rocker. The front end was restyled for 1979 to house individual cutouts for quad rectangular headlights. All four line up well and double-slotted turn signals work as they should. Black-painted nose trim shows chipping as can be seen above. The fuel filler door sits slightly ajar and the seller notes its operation could be smoother. Removable Fisher T-top panels appear clean along with other glass. Inside, Carmine red Deluxe seats wear presentable and correct “Hobnail” fabric center inserts, while velour surfaces show minimal wear aside from mild deformation of the driver’s outer bolsters. Door panels are intact but sagging on the driver-side, while red carpeting looks serviceable overall. The dashboard and console appear largely free of issue but other plastics are described as brittle with age and photos show various issues as a result. The thick-rimmed factory wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and a cue-ball shift knob has replaced the original item. Mounted in a turned aluminum panel with light pitting, factory instrumentation is said to work including a five-digit odometer showing a believed-accurate 59k miles. Air conditioning is equipped and appears complete, but it has not been converted to modern refrigerant and does not blow cold. Remaining accessories are reported to function, including the clock, horn, and a modern stereo powering aftermarket speakers in the rear parcel shelf. The Pontiac 400ci V8 under hood was the high-performance option of the day and was indicated by the Z in the VIN. Factory ratings of 220 horsepower and 320 ft. lbs. of torque were impressive numbers for 1979, though this car is described as feeling substantially more powerful thanks to modifications such as an Edel brock intake and a true dual exhaust with 4-into-1 headers and no catalytic converter. Tall rocker covers are also fitted and further engine work is thought to have taken place, though few details are known. The underside appears solid and clean for a Michigan car, with superficial corrosion on running gear visible in photos. The WS6 suspension package included larger front and rear sway bars along with rear disc brakes, and the car drive well with responsive feel through its power steering. Please come for a test drive, call me for more information, pictures or any thing you may need, 305 401 7469 Vla.Visit our webstie: www.svclassics.com General TermsGENERAL: This is used car and is being sold as-is, with any existing faults, whether known or unknown.
