1979 Mercedes Benz 240D Ready for Restoration - Not Running---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This vehicle is ready for a full restoration and not a dismantling. The TLC that this car needed, I could not give. But I do know that even a basic, shade-tree mechanic can restore this vehicle to full road worthiness. An expert mechanic can restore the vehicle to collectors' item status. The main problems are vacuum system based. And as you know, as a Mercedes diesel enthusiast, vacuum is the sweet science of this genre of vehicle. To be sure, vacuum is everything for the 240D. 117,000 miles, not actual. Broken odometer. Also at issue is interior cosmetics. The seat cushions are all but disintegrated. There are no rips or tears in the leatherette to speak of in the seats, but the springs and cushions are pretty much shot. However, this can be easily corrected in an upholstery shop in an afternoon or two.In addition, the primary glow plug system has failed; as has the glow plug bypass solenoid system [installed after market]. Result: there is no functional glow plug system in the car. Suffice it to say the car sat too long and was neglected too long, but its resurrection is one Benz Diesel lover away. The Title is free and clear and official.Bid with confidence and expectation. |
