I'm selling my 1951 MG TD roadster. This is a stock vehicle, as it left the factory in 1951. It has the correct factory 1,250cc XPAG 4 cylinder engine with the 4 speed manual transmission. It has current Illinois registration and I hold a clear Illinois title in my name. I would call this a driver quality car with patina. It runs and drives, and is very complete and original, but needs tuning and minor work. This car starts easily, and runs, stops, and drives fine. The tachometer and speedometer both work. The clock in the tach is not hooked up, but the clock mechanism is there. The car has a rare accessory Jaeger water temperature gage that I installed last Fall. It was fully rebuilt and works great. These water gages are worth $350 - $400 alone. The original 1,250cc XPAG motor runs very well. There is no evidence of oil in the water, or water in the oil, so there are no head gasket, block cracking, or head cracking issues. The cylinders all have over 135 psi of oil pressure (150psi on cylinders 1, 2, and 3 and 135psi on cylinder 4). Smoke does come from the exhaust when the engine is warm, but it likely is the valve stem seals. I have them ready to install, I just haven't had time to replace them. It could also be worn valve guides too, as the cylinder compression is good. The transmission and clutch both work perfectly. The carbs are the original SU H2 carbs. The paint and interior both have signs of wear and age, but are perfectly presentable as-is. The interior has fading and wear but in overall nice shape. The frame is very solid with just light surface rust (that's one benefit of oil leaks from the engine and transmission!). The doors fit and close well, and don't sag on the hinges. The car has the original Lucas King of the Road headlamps, but these have been converted to sealed beam headlights. All headlights, brake lights, and running lights work. The top is old, but fits well and has no rear window damage or rips, or tears.I have had the following work done to the car (I have receipts for over $1,500 worth of parts and labor):Tachometer drive replaced with a nice working used oneNew upper and lower radiator hoses and clamps installed New TRW brake master cylinder installedBrake systems bled and the correct new Girling fluid addedRadiator was removed, flushed, and repairedSpeedometer was rebuilt Steering wheel replaced with brand new one The previous owner recently replaced the front brake lines and wheel cylinders, as these are all new parts and the backing plates have been cleaned and painted.Known problems: The wiper motor stopped working last week. The handbrake doesn't hold well. I have the complete set of four side curtains, but they need new fabric covering. There is smoke from the exhaust when the engine is warm. The rear brakes likely need rebuilding or adjustment. The paint is worn. The area below both doors has some evidence of patching. There is no jack. Please don't bid unless you are serious about buying this car. You are buying the car as-is and where-is. It is 69 years old, and there is no warranty expressed or implied.
