1966 Ford Mustang C-code Convertible Vehicle Information Description 1966 Ford Mustang C-code Convertible · 289 CID Windsor V-8 engine (code C)· C4 Cruise-O-Matic Three-speed automatic transmission· Red exterior (code T) with black, power-folding top and red vinyl interior (code 25)· GT exhaust· Power steering and power brakes with discs in front If you’re still searching for that special Ford Mustang droptop from the car’s first-generation, you should check out this new arrival at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a simply stunning, nicely restored 1966 Ford Mustang C-code Convertible! This pony was built at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan factory (VIN code F) on June 20, 1966 (code 20F) and it was delivered originally to the Indianapolis, Indiana region for sale (code 34). Finished in red (code T), this Mustang’s paint and trim are in overall great condition, with minor imperfections. The black, power-folding top is in very good order and the rear plastic window is clear. The pony’s body is straight and solid, its engine bay is extremely tidy and the battery appears new. The car’s chrome bumpers are in very good order. This car rolls on Kelly radials, size P195/75R14 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on a body-colored styled steel wheel with Mustang center caps. The wheels are in good, original order while the tires are in very good shape. Under the hood is a 289 CID Windsor V-8 engine (code C) buttoned to a C-4 “Cruise-O-Matic” three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include power steering and power brakes with discs in front. Inside, the car’s red (code 25) crinkle vinyl interior is in great shape. The front buckets and rear bench seats look great, as does the matching red carpeting. The three-spoke steering wheel still looks very mod, while the inner door panels and instrument panel are in excellent order. The floor-mounted gear shifter contrasts nicely with the carpet. Completing the interior is a neo-retro AM/FM stereo. The 1966 Mustang debuted with moderate trim changes including a new grille, side ornamentation, wheel covers and gas cap. Ford's new C-4 “Cruise-O-Matic” three-speed auto transmission became available. A large number of new paint and interior color options, an AM/eight-track sound system, and one of the first AM/FM mono automobile radios were also offered. It also removed the Falcon instrument cluster; the previously optional features, including the round gauges and padded sun visors, became standard equipment. The Mustang would be the best-selling convertible in 1966, with 72,119 sold, beating the number two Chevrolet Impala by almost 2:1. The 1965 and 1966 Mustangs are differentiated by variations in the exterior, despite similar design. These variations include the emblem on the quarter-panels behind the doors. From August 1964 production, the emblem was a single vertical piece of chrome, while for 1966 models the emblem was smaller in height and had three horizontal bars extending from the design, resembling an “E.” The front intake grilles and ornaments were also different. The 1965 front grille used a “honeycomb” pattern, while the 1966 version was a “slotted” style. While both model years used the “Horse and Corral” emblem on the grille, the 1965 had four bars extending from each side of the corral, while on the 1966, these bars were removed. Competition to this Mustang in 1966 included Buick’s Special droptop, Chevrolet’s Corvair Corsa Convertible, Dodge’s Dart GT Convertible, Plymouth’s Valiant Convertible and Pontiac’s Tempest Convertible.
