2.4L flat-six and a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. In good running and driving order and have only put 600 miles on it. Been reliable and would've easily been my daily driver… I occasionally drive it to/from work as is :) I purchased two years ago on behalf of my dad who was looking to import to Australia. Since then I've done everything necessary to prep it for him but situations have changed and he now needs to sell here instead. Here's the work I've had done since purchasing in 2017:- Carb rebuild and tune- Brakes replaced- Full ignition system- Fuel sending unit replaced- Oil pan seal replaced- Exhaust gaskets replaced- Updated fuel lines in engine bay- Timing reset to factory standardsWhen purchased in 2017, this work had been done by the previous owner:- Older repaint- Brake service - new wheel cylinders- New mechanical fuel pump- Battery- Tires replacedDrive train- The dual-carb, air-cooled flat six is not mechanically modified, though it may not be original. The engine number is TO904YN, which is correct for a ’62-’64 car with a manual transmission in 98, 104 or 110 horsepower spec depending on the year. It is likely that this example may have been replaced at some point in the car’s life.- Needs to run with 91 and an octane booster to avoid pinging under load. Not a flaw/fault with the engine or anything - a well known trait of the Corvairs that were built in a time when gas quality was much better!- Heads have not been replaced that I know of so have always run with a lead substitute as well to be safe.Paint/Body work- The body wears an approximately 30-year old paint job. Looking closely you'll notice slight waviness in the paint work, but no evidence of old/cracked bondo, or past repairs in key areas like the door jambs, front and rear fascias, or rear aprons. Some minor bubbling is noted on the doors. - Some hazing and pitting is visible in the brightwork. All of the lights are working except for the reverse lights. The turn-signal stalk is finicky and doesn't cancel out all the time - I've driven for two years and hasn't bothered me. Convertible topThe convertible top is older and repair patches are present but does not leak. A fitted top boot is included. The body and top rubber have aged and could stand to be replaced.Interior- The interior is upholstered in red vinyl and shows little evidence of wear and tear on the seating surfaces. Some wear is present on the carpets, and both door panel corners shows a minor splits/separation. The dash pad is free of cracks, and the heater blower works in two speeds. The wipers, horn, gauges and interior lights work, though the windshield sprayers do not. A Kenwood single-DIN CD player is fitted in place of the stock radio. The ignition switch is finicky, so the previous owner installed a momentary switch under the dash. Has never bothered me but you could look to replace the ignition barrel if you wanted. - The front trunk has some corrosion visible under the silver paint near the passenger’s side of the cowl.- I've replaced to weatherstrip seals but benefit from further attention/upgrades. |
