CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
1970 Toyota FJ40 Land CruiserConcours Level, Museum Quality RestorationU.S. Spec, numbers matching, original condition specimen, purchased from original owner, with only 116K miles. All restored original drivetrain components: F155 engine, 3 speed transmission with column shift, drum brakes front and rear, leaf springs, vacuum transfer case, steering box, steering knuckles, and extremely rare original dealer supplied power take off/driveshaft operated PTO winch. The entire vehicle was disassembled, and all chassis components were sandblasted and powder-coated, including frame, axle housings, winch, steering linkages, skid plate, brake backing plates, driveshafts, steering knuckles, and differential housings. Even the original springs were disassembled, sandblasted, and each individual leaf was powdercoated. Many other parts were powdercoated such as air cleaner, engine rock shields, bell housing cover, shackles, toe hooks, winch hook, valve cover, radiator frame, shift linkages, battery tray, steering linkages, and center arm bracket. All of the fastening hardware and plated parts were cataloged and re-plated in the original color of yellow zinc. Engine rebuilt with OEM parts to factory specifications, with new Toyota starter, alternator, distributor, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, bearings, timing chain, oil and water temp sending units, and valve train components. Ignition timing, carburetor, and valves have been set to factory specifications subsequent to the initial engine break-in of rings and camshaft.Every system component was disassembled and meticulously restored using Genuine Toyota NOS (New Old Stock) parts, including often overlooked subassemblies in other “nut and bolt” restorations, such as winch, windshield wiper motor, instrument cluster, switches, wiring harness, odometer, parking brake, driveshafts, differentials, transfer case, PTO gear case, steering box, transmission, steering knuckles, center arm, brake cylinders, exhaust system, front and rear heaters, vintage Warn hubs that were a dealer accessory, blower unit, transfer case vacuum system, carburetor, clutch, steering linkages, shift linkages, etc. A new horn button was unavailable, so a mould of the original was made and a new button was cast out of epoxy resin and carefully painted with the original colors. The original bottle jack and jack rods were restored and painted the correct school bus yellow color. The owners manual, and emergency work light, and original tool kit are included, as are an original, new, unsold, set of Oregon license plates from 1970.The all original body was completely disassembled and sand blasted. There was no damage or filler of any kind found after sandblasting. The few small common rust prone areas were carefully cut out and replaced with OEM gauge metal. The individual body parts were epoxy primed and painted with highest quality single stage acrylic enamel in the rare color of T-303 Fashion Green, which was only available in 1969-1971. No attempt was made to use filler over the original spot welds used in the factory construction, but rather were faithfully preserved. The body looks exactly as it did when new. There is literally nothing left untouched, and no expense was spared in this restoration. Please keep in mind that this is a museum quality vintage FJ40, and while this would make a great daily driver for someone wanting to drive a new 1970 FJ40, it is better suited for the discriminating collector who is looking for the highest quality restoration possible, and the closest condition to the way it rolled off the assembly line in late 1969. Everything is in pristine, mint condition, and operates as new. There is nothing comparable to this early vintage of FJ40’s, with the all steel doors, wind wings, military style fuel filler recess, small turn signals, round grill, 3 speed column shift, drum brakes on all four corners, single rear lift up window, swing away tailgates, chrome hood ornament, PTO winch, top of windshield wipers, round tail lights, 2/3, 1/3 bench seat, no roll bar, long rear fold down seats, large diameter steering wheel, chrome lift gate stays, and bare metal floor boards and bed. OEM rims were powder-coated in the correct gray color, with new 31” BF Goodrich KM3 Mud Terrains, and OEM hubcaps. All glass is original, with the exception of the new windshield, and both the shocks and steering stabilizer are not common aftermarket units, but genuine Toyota parts. Seat frames, bumpers, side view mirrors, glove box, windshield wiper motor, etc, were sandblasted and painted the original silver pewter color. The seats received new seat foams and original style upholstery. New headliner and OEM sun visors and rear view mirror. New stainless winch cable, and OEM door and ignition locks. All original chrome parts were re-chromed including the lift gate stays and interior handle, interior and exterior door handles, wind wing latches, ash tray, and dash switch bezels.Over 3,000 High Definition photos were taken during the disassembly and reassembly, and over 500 of these photos have been uploaded to the following website:https://www.photo-pick.com/online/albums.xhtml. Click on the image to view the album. As of 12/23/19, there are only 81 miles on the odometer which was set back to zero during the restoration of the instrument cluster. The restoration was completed in the fall of 2019. The photos were taken on the property where the restoration took place, and not actually taken while 4 wheeling. As stated above, the vehicle has only been driven 81 miles since completion. All receipts, documentation, and original factory service manuals will be included in sale.
