1966 Ford Mustang Coupe with Pony InteriorUp for sale today is my unmolested 1966 Ford Mustang. I found this car sitting in a garage and from what I was told the car was sitting for almost 20 years without being driven. From what I was told the owner was elderly and the car failed inspection due to rust on the frame rail. The owner never fixed it and so it just sat around for 20 years until the owner passed away. This car received an amateur restoration years ago and an amateur paint job. The owner was a school teacher and had the kids at the vocation school redo the car. It looks like they put quarter panels on it (or someone did) and the rest of the car does not have rust on the body panels. The paint job looks pretty good but it does have imperfections in it to be expected. When I received the car I oiled up the cylinders and drained the fuel tank and oil. I did a full tune-up on the car and it started right up. The car does run good but I think the fuel tank has some crud in it causing acceleration issues and stubborn startups sometimes. I have replaced a couple fuel filters and it’s getting better but they still clog up pretty quick. The car comes with a new carb, I did not want to replace it until the fuel system was totally cleaned out. The exhaust is nice and quiet and I think this is the first 200 I-6 that I have owned that does not have a exhaust manifold leak. The brakes were gone through and the car does stop well. It does not have power steering or power brakes but these cars realty aren’t bad without them. The car also has a very desirable Ford Dealer installed air conditioning unit that was put it when the car was new. The fan on it works but it obviously needs to be charged and probably resealed to cool the car.The interior of the car needs to be recovered. I was told that the car is original and unmolested, it does have the pony interior with the wooded steering wheel and trim. The dash pad is nice as is the headliner on the car but I would put door panels and seat covers on it at the least. The rear cover is ok but it is old and stained, the front covers obviously need to be recovered. Now for the worse part of the car, it looks like a typical 54 year old Mustang underneath. It has rust on the frame rails and some in the floors. The front rails have holes in the bottoms of the rails and the worst section is the rear frame rails by the shackles and trunk floor. All the parts are available for these old stangs but you need to have the skill, time or money to repair them. I had planned on making the repairs to this car but life has gotten in the way and this car keeps getting placed on the back burner. I bought a ’66 Mustang a few years ago because they are so much fun to drive, that being said my wife drove it a couple times and now it has become her car. I have a ’67 Galaxie but wanted a Mustang as a daily driver in the summer so that is why I bought this one (the A/C was a bonus). The tires you see on the car I placed on it from my wife’s ’66 Mustang so I could move it out of the garage. I took the wheels and had four used (two almost new) tires put on the wheels that I had removed from her ’66 Mustang because she wanted the whitewalls. That being said the tires in the photos are not included in the sale but four black wall tires that are balanced and legal are on the car now (last two photos). I know that I have probably forgotten something so please feel free to contact me with any questions. The vehicle is stored at my home in the garage out of the elements. Vehicle is being sold in as is condition with no warranty and shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I am happy to help your shipper regarding being available for picking it up and loading the car. Understand that this is not a 100 point show car by any means and that it needs work completed underneath before being safe to drive on the roads. If you are looking for a turnkey and go car this is not the car for you but with some love this old stang could be a fun car for someone once again. |
