This purpose built race car has 471 original street miles, and having never been used for racing, it is in beautiful showroom condition. Built by legendary Alan Sevadjian, this Corvette is as close to one of the original six Gran Sports as you can get. As GMs answer to the Cobra of the day, Zora Argus Duntov was the man behind what would later become the second generation Corvette Sting Ray. Prior to market launch, GM issued 20 VIN numbers for purpose built race cars, 6 of which were assigned to competing vehicles during the early 1960s (4 coupes, 2 convertibles). One of GMs drivers and engineers, Alan Sevadjian, later bought the exclusive license rights to Duntovs Gran Sport name and design. Since the early 1980s, Duntov Motor Company has been building a number of iconic Corvette Race Cars, including a continuation of the 1963 Gran Sport with the remaining original 14 VIN numbers. The vehicle featured here is #18 from that original 20 VIN allocation, and was built in 2014. Originally sold to a client in Texas, the current owner bought this vehicle back from Duntov Motors, where it has spent most of its life garaged in Phoenix, Arizona. Structurally this vehicle is identical to the original six Gran Sports having been built using the same original GM molds, and featuring a heavy duty 5 inch tubular reinforced unibody design. While original in construction and spirit, this Gran Sport does have a GM E-ROD LS3 Motor, Tremec TKO 5-Speed transmission, and Wilwood Disc Brakes. Power is rated at 430 hp at 5900 rpm, and has a top speed of 174 mph. The extremely low millage example is in perfect mechanical condition. The interior is spartan and purpose built. The five point racing harness and contoured seats hold the driver in position during spirited driving, and all the gauges are easy to read, favoring function over form. All interior components of this Gran Sport look and operate as they should. There are no rips, tears, or blemishes; a further testament to the outstanding condition of this vehicle. Moving to the exterior, the Sherwin-Williams Dimension Guardsman Blue (99045) on White (508) is an iconic, original color in spectacular condition. We will note that there are some very minor abrasion marks on the drivers side door jam. However, beyond this minor imperfection, the body, paint, and trim pieces of this Gran Sport are excellent overall. Since the building of this Gran Sport, other Gran Sport replicas have come to market. However, none are as close to the original six as this one.
