Being one of 4,802 produced world-wide in 1972) and the only one we have come across in Dunkelrot over a Bamboo interior, it is our opinion that this is the best possible combination that could have rolled off the factory floor! As a gentleman’s car, this is one of the few that was ordered in classic, understated, and elegant colors. The stunning and timeless colors are both period correct and still fashionable today whether it be a trip to the country club or country home. What makes this vehicle truly worth owning is the level of detail and hand assembled craftsmanship that is present in no automobile currently produced. This magnificent motorcar was produced in an era when owning a Mercedes-Benz meant something significant. There was no such thing as a $299 a month lease on a new C-Class; ownership was reserved for just a select few. This vehicle was one of the most expensive and best overall vehicles available during its time; it combined the road holding ability of a sports car with the opulent appointments of the finest luxury cars. This was a vehicle for the most discerning individual to whom sacrificing any virtue of the vehicle for the sake of another was unacceptable. Having just two owners, this vehicle has received meticulous care and maintenance. Both owners have clearly lovingly cared for this magnificent motorcar. What sets this vehicle apart is the restoration that was just completed. At a cost that is barely justifiable for the value of the car, it is clear that the care this car has received from new has been the best. A bare metal, glass out, door off repaint in its original and correct Dunkelrot was just performed. During the repaint, all pieces such as seals were replaced to ensure that the vehicle is as close to new as possible. After the repaint, ‘project creep’ set in. Next was interior refinishing where new seat covers with fresh horse hair pads were installed to ensure not only the cosmetic benefit of new covers but the comfort of new pads. Next was new and correct loop carpet, door cards, and clam shell trim. Nothing was left untouched in this restoration. Further, the vehicle just underwent a massive service including a full front end rebuild and is ready to be enjoyed today! During the service we changed the sub frame bushings, engine mounts, all front control arm bushings, steering dampener, tie rod ends, front shocks and springs, sway bar bushings, sway bar links oil/filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, transmission flush, oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, air filter, and serviced the A/C.
