In 1972 Chevrolet replaced the (SS) model with a Custom. This car was bought new 10/13/71 by So Cal racing legend Andy Porterfield (http://autoweek.com/article/grand-am/andy-porterfield-racing-pioneer-and-scca-champion-dead-80) and was likely a special order because it contained the following custom equipment: -Belt moldings, special steering wheel, power disc/drum brakes, auxiliary lighting, special sound proofing, sport suspension, 15x 7 wheels, G70 x 15 Tires.Other options ordered on this car include: power windows, center console, 4-season air conditioning, automatic level control, positraction rear axle, heavy duty battery, special instrumentation (tachometer, amperage gauge and engine temperature gauge), and heavy duty radiator. It has all original GM Sheet Metal. Car had no rust (was a dry California car) before the work took place. Matching numbers 350 engine and th350 trans. Car frame was blasted, cleaned, prep, rust sealed and top coated with gloss black chassis paint. The car has 80k original miles. The engine was completely rebuilt to the following specs.Engine/Trans: 358ci, .040 hyper pistons, comp .268 cam k-kit, Mr. Gasket coated headers, 2.5 in dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, one piece heavy duty oil pan gasket. New seals in the trans and heavy duty pan gasket. Rear Axle: numbers matching 12 bolt posi .373 factory gears. Lighting- Dapper Lighting (275) Projector headlights.Exterior and Paint- brand new inner fenders, weatherstripping, Front lip spoiler, custom grille.
