CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
This Mk1 Superformance Ford GT40R was built in 2011 by Zappa Racing. It is a continuation production car with a GT40 chassis number (P2095R). This particular car was a successful race car in the SVRA historic series. It has so many original details making it difficult to differentiate from an original car. This car has a built in roll cage from the factory making it a safer way to enjoy the historic bliss of driving a GT40. The car also has a 'racing required' plumbed in fire extinguisher. It is as per the original race cars, a right hand drive / steering car with the period correct right hand cill gated gear shifter, but for on road use, you are in reality sitting very close to the centre of the car.The car has the RTB gearboxes as used in the original, with this one benefitting from a recent full rebuild by RBT Transmissions (Lloyd Butfoy) who builds these boxes for all the original race cars too!It comes with a spare 110 octane ford 302 race motor dyno'd to 575bhp built by Holman Moody (the same builder who built the original race motors in the 60's) and dry sump system. Currently installed is the ford 302 (stroked to 363) pump gas motor with approx 550bhp running with the 4 x webber period downdraft carburetors. The interior, including seats are actually made to the exact design of the original period seats (but for safety made with leather instead of parachute fabric that burned badly!). Even the Mota-Lita steering wheel and carved wooden shift knob are the same as the period items. It is titled as a road car (1965 Ford GT40) and can be used as such.As a race car, it is fitted with period correct nitrogen filled race dampers and has excellent handling even compared to modern sports cars. This car has benefitted from extensive rebuild once retired from the racing circuit when I purchased it, including a full rewire / re-plumbed and dissassembly and re-assembly. The Pump gas motor has only run for a few hours total (all on road) and the race motor had done about 20hrs since its last refresh just prior to my acquisition a few years ago. I have extensive documentation of the work done on the car since my ownership as well as a file of all the technical info and race documentation etc. The car comes with its SVRA historic Log Book as well.Included are a number of spare parts including:Holman Moody drysumped race motor (ford 302) incl. all drysump equipmentroll barsexhaust mufflers (if you want it to be a bit quieter..)1 x spare set of wheel rimsnumerous spare tires (old / used Avon race tires)some of the replaced interior parts (seats/centre console/heater & controls etc)Every detail of this car is to confirm with the strict historic racing regulations ensuring that this car is as close to the actual original race cars as is possible. Have a piece of history that took on Ferrari in the 60's Le Mans battle, and do the same today in the historic race world. Signed by Brian Redman. Steal the show at any track or car even. Any inspections welcome.Has to be seen / heard / driven to be fully appreciated!I can assist with making shipping arrangement for carAdditional information: This is the original spec of the car in 2011 when it was built:-1966 GT40 Mk I ‘R’ Chassis No.: GT40P/2095Continuation Model by Pathfinder/Superformance GT40P/2095 Holman Moody Race-prepared by Holman Moody - who along with Shelby American prepared GT40s for Ford in the 1960’s - this incredible car comes with a proven race history. All original, including right-hand steering and a Holman Moody 302 engine with full Webers. GT40P/2095RThis car is a GT40R shipped from the factory in a brilliant black finish. The gold stripes and numbered rondials were added using a base coat clear coat application. The remaining decals on the car are all made from removable vinyl. This is an exact continuation model 1966 Mk. I. Took second in its first race. All set ups are complete. Chassis:Once the car was received, and being an experienced 30 veteran of racing the following revisions were made to the chassis: Standard shocks were removed and double adjustable, for bound and rebound, nitrogen filled Bilsteins were added. These shocks come equipped with a schrader valve (similar to a tire valve), which enables you to add nitrogen to ensure the shocks are operating in the proper pressure range. The stock springs were discarded and full racing springs were added so stability both on the straights and in the corners is maintained. The stock sway bars were also removed and heavy-duty adjustable sway bars were added so you could tune them for the track you are driving. Many of the heavy steel cover plates were removed and replaced with light weight polished aluminum. Body:The fans were removed from the radiator to eliminate weight. As long as you are at speed these are not required. Aluminum ducting was added to the side ducts for additional cooling to the oil cooler. Aluminum side ducts for brake cooling has also been added along with custom brake cooling housings around the rotors both front and rear. The steel fire wall was removed to accommodate the light weight racing pulleys and a custom polished firewall was fabricated and installed in its place. The factory center console has been replaced by a polished aluminum console that houses the hour meter and the controls for the cool suit equipment. A pedal rest was installed for the left foot to aid in relaxing the clutch leg for long endurance racing. The standard interior was removed and, in its place, a custom adjustable aluminum seat was installed. This gives the driver lateral support. A head rest was also fabricated to meet current rules and regulations. Engine:A very special Holman Moody race 302 was built for this car at great expense. Lee Holman started from scratch with a dart block, Moldex crank, JE pistons, carillo rods, Airflow research heads, aluminum flywheel and topped it off with a set of finely matched 48 IDA webers. The engine develops 550hp at the wheels. With the bundle of snakes this baby howls on the track. Coupled to the engine is a ZF 5 speed that has had custom shifter bushings to ensure smooth shifting and custom ratios good for all US tracks. A custom over-sized oil sump with heater has been installed. The dry sump motor has a 4 stage pump that more than satisfies the engines demand. The oil cooler has a dash switched fan that keeps the engine oil running at a constant temperature. Heat shields made of polished aluminum keep the heat of the headers away from the oil cooler. Custom aluminum overflow tanks for water filling, oil and transmission venting are installed under the rear deck. An MSD ignition has been added that is switched at the dash. This feature enables you to build oil pressure prior to firing up the engine. All the hoses are Samco race hoses with double clamping. A Bosch mini alternate and a hi torque starter was installed for weigh saving and reliability. Wheels:The wheels are BRM that have been widened at the rear by 2 1/2". These along with the Avon race tires fit beautifully within the body. Brakes:All four corners have Performance Friction rotors with Wilwood calipers and KPF racing pads. All cooled with custom ducting. General:This car’s first outing came in second in a two-hour endurance race at the Jefferson. At Watkins Glen it ran second only to retire with two laps remaining due to a flat tire.
