And it continues, the exodus of my collection/projects after the divorce. Up for sale is a perfect start to your FJ-40 project or just a ready to go farm/hunting truck. It has a solid frame, it has a solid 283 V8, it has a solid driveline, it has a solid factory winch, and a half way decent body comparatively. It has no title, it came from Georgia where they rarely use titles for cars prior to the 17 digit vin#, I do have the bill of sale from the prior owner and I've owned it for awhile now working on it on the weekends. I got it totally driveable and then life happened, of course. Oh well. I can get a NC title for it but that would take a few hundred and about 3 months up to you if its a big deal or not. Here are the details.Interior: After cleaning it out the interior was in better shape than I thought, it was definitely used as a backwoods hunting truck for awhile. The green is definitely spray paint, someone took it apart and spray painted the inside and outside of the truck, I think it was originally red. Attached is a pic of the Vin# plate, based off the serial number it is a 1970 model truck. The speedometer works therefore I would imagine the odometer works, I'm guessing it has rolled over once and it has 105k. The turn signal switch works most of the time hah, there might be a loose wire somewhere. The window regulators need work, the wipers work great, all the shift levers work, the aftermarket temp gauge and oil pressure gauge work, the choke works, the headlights work, I assume the brake lights work but I don't have any friends so who knows. It has some of the original floor mat, someone cut a custom rear floor mat but the rear floor is definitely dented a bit from farm duty. The drivers floor might have a plate welded under the seat not sure, the floors are mostly in pretty good shape compared to most trucks that were left to rot on a farm. Factory roll bar is there but the rear seats are gone. When they did the V8 swap they cut and welded the transmission tunnel holes to move the drivetrain forward a little. Exterior: What you see is what you get, I tried to get pics of everything. Someone at some point thought it would look cool to modify the fenders, and both quarters are bent upwards behind the tires to fit bigger tires at some point. It has custom front and rear bumpers, someone thought it would be a great idea to green spray bomb the whole truck green which I'm not in love with. The tailgate hatch opens and closes good, but it only has a handle to open it on the inside, the struts hold it up great, the bottom doors work too as does the spare tire carrier. The front doors open and close strong but need new weather stripping. Hood opens and closes fine, obviously it has some rust on the rockers, since it was spray painted I honestly don't know the original shape of the body but I would wager to say based on what I've seen so far you'll find it is more solid than you first expect. At least that is what happened to me, I bought it at night time and expected a bucket of rust but it really wasn't that bad when I started getting into it. The frame is way more solid than I expected, I haven't found any serious issues thus far. Drivetrain: It runs and drives, I had it up to 60mph yesterday, not saying it felt like a mercedes or anything but it will do it if you want to hah. The engine is rock solid, it is a period correct Chevrolet 283 truck engine out of a K10 and it has WAY more power than the original F engine. It has a HEI distributor, cap and rotor are fairly new, wires are good, plugs are brand new. It had an OLD Holley 600cfm 4bbl carb on it when I got it but the idle air block was cracked and held together with silicone. So I bought a brand new Holley 600cfm 4bbl and swapped it from electric choke to manual. Tuning carbs isn't my first language so I'm sure you could get it running even better than me but I have the fuel about 1.75 turns off base, idle set fairly low, timing set to -1 btdc with the vacuum plugged in plus a brand new AC Delco mechanical fuel pump. The gas tank is fine no trash in the lines, also replaced some of the fuel hoses. The radiator hose could be better it leaks just a hair but not enough that I care about it. The engine idles smooth as silk, it fires right up hot or cold, sometimes you have to get it warmed up before it wants to idle perfect but it runs great. No smoke, no engine noises, the exhaust is tasteful and sounds good. I don't think I have the fuel perfect as it will pop out of the intake if you bog it down and smash the gas but whatever it runs good for the most part. Clutch slave cylinder is a brand new Aisin unit adjusted correctly, it shifts into all gears no issues, 4wd works good it still has the factory warn hubs on the front axle (before aisin made them), and the factory winch works GREAT ask me how I know. Accidentally had the lever engaged threw it into reverse and broke the winch hook straight off the cable didn't phase the winch or PTO one bit lol. The brakes will stop you on a dime, the vacuum booster works fine, no leaks. I am convinced if you stabbed the brakes hard enough it would do a front stand no problem. It still has 4 wheel drums, so they tend to hang up a little initially after sitting awhile but they stop you well so who cares. The steering is a hair loose, but its all original so what do you expect, it drives fairly well, pretty much like a WW2 Jeep as you might expect. If you want a solid farm truck this is ready to go as is. If you want to restore it, have at it. The tires have good tread and match except the awesome spare tire, and it has aluminum wheels. Any questions let me know will answer all promptly I don't really have anything else to do. |
