Up for sale is an amazing custom-built street legal former sand drag racing Jeep with local West Coast winning race history. The Jeep (and another mid-engined version) was purpose-built in the 1970's by a local racing legend to go to Bakersfield, California and show the local big boys what the local "Little Guys" could do.The build features top-level components and craftsmanship throughout. The chassis began with a CJ5 frame, "Swiss Cheese" lightened from front to back. The wheel base has been altered to push the front axle out further forward for high-speed stability. The axles are pro-built and strong. As raced, it was (is) powered by a 1969 Ford Boss 302 race engine, and Liberty-modified Ford Toploader transmission. To be clear, I'm keeping the engine & accessories, and selling the Jeep otherwise complete. The car-geared Toploader transmission features a race clutch, Liberty-modified 2nd gear synchro (clutchless shifting into second), Hurst racing shifter and linkage, etc. The wheels are machined Torque Thrust style 15 x 10's mounted with brand-new Super Swamper Bogger tires. An under-chassis aluminum fuel cell resides out back.Custom features abound, including a full professional roll cage, plumbed into the Jeep's heating system to provide a defrost/window feature, custom tail lamps and marker lamps, custom aluminum bumpers, full custom soft top, light weight fiberglass bucket seats and rear bench seat, a polished steering column, a full compliment of Stewart Warner vintage gauges, hydraulic locking parking brake, full street-legal lighting, brake lights, turn signals, etc. Titled and plated. If I have the history correct, this Jeep and its' fuel-injected mid-engined brother took home top honors at the Bakersfield Sand Nationals in the 70's. Supposedly, it was also featured in Hot Rod magazine back in the day. I've spoken with a local 4x4 performance shop, and the owner distinctly remembers both the Jeep(s) and the builder... local legends. She's beautiful, unique, extremely well-built, and a special addition to any hard-core 4x4 fan's line-up. At present, she's also turn-key. Again, the price is WITHOUT the Boss 302 engine carb to pan, and associated accessory components. Ford fans could bolt in a Windsor-based engine with minor exhaust mods, or a 4v Cleveland will mate up exactly, as would a 2v Cleveland. That said, if you want to adapt or swap out the Toploader transmission, you could power it any way you wish.Clear title in hand, titled properly as a 1978 assembly. While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible, she is being sold exactly as-is without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer. I can provide you with contact info for a shipping broker I have used for years; ultimately the choice must be yours alone. Please feel free to call me with any questions you may have...
