This is a rare example of only 5,194 cars built with these engine & transmission codes. There are no signs of any significant accidents or rust and the car has very straight body with solid doors underneath and undercarriage. The car was repainted to a period correct and very striking and desirable 'Indian Fire Red' color and will be sold with it's original dealer invoice and window sticker and a copy of the Deluxe Marti Report. The car boasts both its original Vin tag still present as well as the car's original door tag. Originally ordered at 'Jack Dykstra Ford' of Lansing, MI with options on this 'R' code Mustang totally over $4k.The Mach 1 debuted in 1969 as the mainstream high performance Mustang, taking over from the GT. Two and four barrel 351's were offered plus the four barrel 390 and the 428 CJ and CJ-Ram-Air. Unlike the GT option, the Mach 1 model included a special interior that featured many of the Deluxe decor Group items plus high back bucket seats and special carpet. The Mach 1's original recipe was simple: It started with a V8 powered 'Sportsroof' body and added numerous visual and performance enhancing options which the car proudly boasts including the Blackout hood treatment with hood pins, hood scoop (including optional Ram Air Shaker scoop), competition suspension, chrome pop-open gas cap, Magnum 500 wheels, chrome exhaust tips, deluxe interior with in dash tachometer, dual color keyed racing mirrors, unmissable livery and chin spoiler and rear deck spoiler.Through 1968 the Shelby's had been recognized as racier looking Mustangs with higher output V8's but in 1969, as Shelby began using their own unique fiberglass front ends, Ford began a 'duplication of effort' and responded with the Boss Fastbacks and Mach 1's to compete against the higher priced Shelby's. The optional and top-of-the-line rarely ordered 428 Cobra Jet 'Big Block' Ram Air engine was the ultimate incarnation of the Mach 1 and in Mustang enthusiast circles the 428 CJ is legendary for grabbing the Stock Eliminator title at the 1970 National Hot Rod Association Winternationals. This was the race of the year for high performance enthusiasts and the 428 CJ was the winner that season. In his book 'Fast Mustang', marque expert Alex Gabbard observed that 'The 428 Cobra Jet engine has been called the fastest running pure stock engine in the history of man!"Standard on Mach 1s was a fierce but cosmetic hood scoop that had integrated turn-signal lights mounted in the back.
