CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
1978 Corvette Pace Car This 1978 Corvette Pace Car has only 20,000 actual miles on it; and has been garage kept since it was new.It has the L82 engine with an automatic transmission. The options include: air conditioning, cruise control, tilt/telescopic steering, power windows, power door locks, rear window defroster and AM/FM stereo with a CB radio. Incidentally, all of the original ’78 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Cars were equipped with this CB radio option for direct communications with race track officials,The Corvette has always been treated as a collector’s item; and with the exception of a replacement brake master cylinder, front brake hoses & fuel pump…it’s all original…right down to its factory installed Goodyear Eagle tires! This classic comes with following original factory literature: 1978 Limited Edition Owner’s Manual, 1978 Chevrolet New Car Limited Warranty, 1978 Chevrolet Passenger Car Maintenance Schedule, Chevrolet 1978 Consumer Information Corvette, Owner’s Manual Enjoying Your Delco Radio, Citizens Band Radio Service Rules and Regulations, Introducing the Freedom Battery, Limited Warranty Good Year Auto & Truck Tires, EPA Fuel Economy Estimates, Blower Motor Operation pamphlet; and aluminum wheel equipment Description & Maintenance Instructions pamphlet.Amazingly, the knock-out portions of the door & ignition keys are taped to the 1978 Chevrolet New Car Limited Warranty! These knock-outs are stamped with the duplication number for each key.The regalia decals have never been applied to the Corvette and come with the car in the original GM box.The Corvette runs well, shifts well & stops well, all of the maintenance is up to date. Not to mention that it’s a pleasure to drive! The fiberglass body is free from cracks and the gleaming original acrylic lacquer paint is free from lacquer crazing, (which is common in a lot of older Corvettes; especially black ones). So the body appearance on this cool old classic is simply outstanding! However, it should be noted that some small rock chips exist in the silver rear flare areas & a quarter size black paint defect exists in the top center of the front valance. So with correction of these minor defects, along with some light buffing, would move the paint up from outstanding…to fantastic!Since the Corvette is garage kept, it’s absolutely free of sun fading. So the interior still has its vivid silver color; all of the rubber weather stripping still has a brand new look; the glass T-tops are still pristine; all of the body emblems have a factory fresh appearance; all of the body decals are still visually vibrant and the T-Top storage bags are like new.A view of the Pace Car’s interior is instantly impressive, as it has changed very little since it was brand new! In fact, on a scale from one to ten…the interior is a solid nine and one half!To reach the interior’s full 10, the ash tray door needs to be touched up (or repainted); and a one-inch scuff mark needs repair on a factory crease; which is located in the lower driver’s leather seat back. The only operational problems on the Corvette consist of the following:The smallest center section of the power antenna (which connects to the motor) is missing. So when the radio is switched on, the motor runs for about 30 seconds, but it doesn’t raise the antenna. However the antenna can easily be raised manually. The air conditioning system is fully charged, but the compressor clutch won’t engage. Even though the system fan pushes adequate air flow though the outlets, it’s just not refrigerated. But it is a good place to mention that the heater works well. 3. Pulls slightly to the right when breaking, again i'm nit picking. This Pace Car is truly eye-catching in all respects. In fact you can’t drive very far before you’ll hear “Hey, Man, Nice Corvette!” But I’ve mentioned (often nit-picked) the defects. That’s because potential buyers should know exactly what they’re getting! After all, these cars are forty-one years old. So if someone has a “perfect” one, chances are, a close inspection will reveal…that it isn’t!
