1966 FORD KVA GT40 FORD vs. FERRARI – This is the car!!! Offered here is a truly amazing factory-built supercar. This is no “kit-car” but a factory built thoroughbred in every sense. This KVA Ford GT40 was hand crafted in the KVA factory by the father of the GT40 production, Ken Attwell. For those of you who do not know, Ken Attwell was the Senior Engineer and Supervising Production Manager for Ford of Britain. With the Ford Company’s blessing, Ken was allowed to take molds of the original GT40. Ken founded the KVA company in England while continuing his career with Ford of Britain. KVA produced approximately 550 GT40’s in the span of the company’s existence. The KVA Ford GT40 is the only company to have Ford’s blessing to produce the GT40. Thus, replicas or aftermarket production GT40’s do not compare with the original KVA Ford GT40’s. The KVA production is as close as one can get to the original Lemans winning GT40. So, unless you are willing to spend around 10 Million US Dollars, the KVA Ford GT40 is the logical alternative. Titled as a 1966 Ford GT40 Now, about this vehicle. This is an unrestored 1966 Ford KVA GT40 and is titled as a 1966 Ford GT40. Fresh out of storage, this unrestored GT40 has approximately 3,000 miles on the clock. This fabulous, one owner GT40 has been stored away in a shipping container since 1997 and has not seen the daylight in 23 years!!! To get this fabulous, valuable and highly desirable collector car back on the road, several things needed to be taken car of. The radiator was replaced, the fuel tanks and sending units were restored and all fluids and seals changed. The engine has been rebuilt and everything checked from front to rear. This thoroughbred starts, runs, drives and stops as good as the day it left the factory. Keeping everything original, this unrestored 1966 Ford KVA GT40 does show some patina. The paint is original and shows some patina, age checking, minor chips and some valance road rash (minor scrapes). However, the paint is overall in excellent condition for the vintage and still looks very presentable. It is not a concourse car but one which can be driven, raced and enjoyed. This is an original factory produced Ford KVA GT40. Thus, as you can see in the photos, it is a right-hand drive which is correct for the GT40’s. Years ago, the driver’s seat was re-upholstered, and the brass grommet rings were not put back in. Thus, if you want to restore this to a concourse car, the driver’s seat will need the brass grommets installed. The factory Shelby Cobra 302 V-8 high performance engine has been completely rebuilt and runs like a champion. The 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The clutch is new and tight. The chassis is the factory built KVA frame with adjustable coil-overs on all four corners. The four-wheel disk brakes have been upgraded to Wilwood disk brakes. This fantastic 1966 Ford KVA GT40 has never been wrecked and holds a clean clear California Title. Further, the vehicle still has the original owner’s manual with a folder full of documentation and receipts. This very rare, highly collectible and very valuable 1966 Ford KVA GT40 will be an excellent investment if well cared for and maintained as it has been. My price is $84,997 as it sits now. I will be starting a concourse restoration in the next few months and the price will be near $200k when finished.
