The 356 production was winding down. In 1965, they only built 1,100 coupes worldwide. How many are left with their original drivetrain? How many SoCal 1-owner examples are left? This C was built on January 5th, 1965 and delivered on January 15th, 1965 to Pon’s Porsche in Holland for export to the U.S. Competition Motors of Hollywood, California leased it to a Mr R. C. Olhoffer of Fountain Valley, California on March 2nd, 1965. It was lightly optioned with the following equipment:JackSpare tireCarrying case,Continental tiresThe Blaupunkt radio and antenna were installed by the dealer.Within a couple months of ownership and only a few hundred miles, this owner could not afford the payments and sold it to the current Orange County owner. For the next 55-years, this owner took excellent care of this 356. It was always garaged in a dry climate. Initially, he used it to commute to work until his office moved near his home and it became more of a weekend car. His office was down the street from Aase Motors, so he serviced it there for over 30-years. Aase is one of the most respected independent Porsche repair shops in Southern California. Highlights of services include:Most recent service (7/17 @ 93,296 miles) Oil service Valve adjustment Clean out fuel system/replace fuel line Replace fuel cock Fuel filter Flush brake systemRoutine oil services and valve adjustmentsFuel pump and brake reservoir (7/09 @ 90,632 miles)Rebuilt carburetors (4/07 @ 90,315 miles)Michelin XZX tires installed (1/07 @ 90,136 miles)Replaced muffler (12/98 @ 83,448 miles)Rebuild right rear brake caliper (10/95 @ 80,053 miles)Master cylinder and brake lines (10/95)Rebuild Engine (9/93 @ 77,742 miles) Main and rod bearings Piston and cylindersCamshaftPushrod tubesValve jobRecondition rodsPowdercoat tinsCase workMag and polish crankSometime in the late 80’s to early 90’s, this owner had Jim East Autobody repaint the car in its original color of Dolphin Grey. They used Glasurit paint. Early in the car’s life, the owner had changed the color to Red. East took it down to the metal, removed all the trim/glass and repainted the car back to its original color. There are few tiny cervices where you can still see a few spots of red. This 356 is in very nice survivor condition. It’s clear that it was always garaged in a dry climate. The paint looks excellent for being nearly 3 decades old. There are minimal signs of use with no major dents or chips. The glass is in good shape with no cracks and the brightwork is original and looks very good. It appears that most if not all the deco trim is original and also in good shape. Over 20-years ago, the owner had a low-speed collision on a side street. Damage was localized to just the front right corner. There is a small patch of metal replaced on the front right nose towards the middle of the nose. There were also some repairs in the front trunk area around the battery. The work was typical for the era and there are no signs of corrosion. The hood and other body gaps are quite good. The rest of the underside is original including the floors, rockers, and logitudinals. The doors have their original welds with no signs of rust. There are no signs of any corrosion or other damage. The original factory wheels are wearing older Michelin XZX tires with near full tread. The tires are not showing any signs of cracking or dry rot – proof of this car’s excellent indoor care. All the exterior lights work.We had our mechanic recently do an inspection. He confirmed the car was a nice survivor in very good mostly original condition. He also performed a compression test and the results were excellent: 1) 140 2) 135 3) 135 4) 140. The battery is not strapped down as the clips to secure it are missing from when the trunk floor area was repaired. The interior is equally as nice and was refreshed around the time the car was painted. The seats were reupholstered in leather, but in the same factory color. There are minimal signs of wear with no tears or rips, just some light wrinkling. The headliner, carpet, and door panels all look fresh. The dash also looks great and all the gauges work except the clock. The horn works as well as all of the interior/gauge lights and the radio. The steering wheel is original and showing scuffs from years of use. This 356 drives fantastic. It starts easily even if sitting for some time. There is minimal smoking and it holds an even idle. Power feels spot on with good throttle response. The brakes have excellent pedal feel with no fading. The steering is also quite good and the car tracks straight. This example would be ideal for vintage touring events.California registration is current through August of 2020. The car still wears its original black CA license plate from when it was delivered new. This 356 comes with its original owner’s manual, 1-key, original spare wheel, original jack, plastic trunk cover (we believe to be original), 28-years of service records, one CA black plate (original), and copy of factory Kardex report.**Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud.
