The Story:The original owner purchased this car around 47 years ago. They were moving out of state and not knowing what they had, decided to sell the car for scrap metal. Luckily the second owner, who owned the recycling center, offered to purchase the car for himself, thus saving it from being melted down and turned into a Prius. Unfortunately, the second owner quickly found that restoring a car requires a lot of time, money and effort, so he sold the car to us. We (SoCal Customs Classic Automotive) purchased the car and started the process of turning this classic survivor into a one-of-a-kind cool ride. The Good: Vehicle has a clear California title with current registration. It starts right up, and runs and drives great. It could be used as a daily driver or weekend cruiser. The floor pans including the battery tray are all original and don’t show any signs of rust. Outside, the car has original patina paint that has been sanded and clear coated to preserve the beauty of the natural aging process. All of the fixed glass was removed, and the windshield was replaced with brand new glass. All of the fixed glass rubber was replaced as well. All 4 tires along with the front and rear bumpers and brackets were also replaced. The car was lowered significantly in the front, but can be lowered more (front and rear) depending on the preference of the future owner. The inside of the car was totally gutted, painted, and reassembled. The reconditioning of the interior includes a mixture of VW restoration parts with a couple of one of a kind custom touches. Included in the one off design is the painstaking deletion of the foam Super Beetle dash, custom one of a kind leather headliner, and matching rear package tray. Also included in the restoration process are small details like new pedal pads, shifter boots, steering wheel, etc. It is easy to see the seats were recovered but what you can’t see (except in pictures) is the extra time and energy that went into this build, like new molded seat foam for comfort and longevity, door panel seals, etc. There are many more parts and features than listed. Many of these features and the process can be found on our website, or seen in person. If you would like to see the car (recommended) and/or take it for a test drive down PCH, you will find the vehicle located here in San Clemente, Ca. The Bad:The car is 49 years old. Also, this is not a full frame off restoration. (Like we normally do) It has original wiring, original paint, etc. It looks like the right front fender was in an accident and replaced many years ago. (Full disclosure.) Also there is some rust on the inner right fender/quarter panel area. Although it starts right up, runs great, doesnt smoke, etc. the engine has an unknown number of miles on it. The horn in inoperative. I have been restoring cars since the 1980s and have a 100% positive feedback on ebay and plan on keeping it that way. There is nothing to hide here. Please feel free to come look at and drive the car before bidding if you have any reservations. The Ugly:Nothing I can think of fits in this category although you could put the right front lower quarter (listed above) into this category depending on who you ask. It is very repairable. The Conclusion:If you want to own a one of a kind classic car with some special touches, that is appreciating in value every day, this is the car for you. Thanks for looking and we hope to see you driving this cool California classic soon. Website: Email: [email protected]: Brian 949-394-0577 |
