CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
Here is an extremely rare factory 401 equipped project 1974 Jeep Custom Wagoneer. It came with the GM turbo 400 automatic transmission (now missing) that are available in Denver totally re manufactured for $650. This is a numbers matching engine vehicle. Clear CO title with the cowl tag and the cab VIN tag all showing the same VIN. AMC did NOT stamp partial VIN's on their engine blocks and used an aluminum tag screwed onto the passenger side valve cover. These are easily lost through time. This vehicle has its original tag still in place. It shows: 701Z02 which decodes to mean: 1974-January-401 engine-2nd day of January. The cab VIN tag shows a build date of January, 1974 which coincides with the valve cover tag. AMC blocks were cast with the engine displacement size in large numbers between the freeze plugs and behind the motor mounts. The 401 castings are plainly visible (last photo). This vehicle came from AZ, then (dry)Archuleta County, CO and then to (also dry) Delta, CO in 1999, and that explains why it is almost rust free. A little bubbling around the right rear wheel opening that could be welded up and ground down with out having to cut it out. Frame, floor pans, door bottoms, rockers, hood, rear hatch, firewall, cowl, etc all look to be rust free and dent free. All glass except the windshield (available online for $350) are very nice. Has been repainted on the outside obviously as it was originally Fairway Green with green interior which is all still original. It came with 401, automatic, tilt steering, power steering, A/C, cruise control, power front disc brakes (still has its original calipers!), AM radio, clock, roof rack, leather wrapped steering wheel, and bucket seats. Someone stole the gauge cluster from it at some point (no cut wires) and evidently had an issue with the ignition switch in the column as it is missing so I have no keys to start it. The correct 4V Autolite 4300 carb is currently not installed but it is extremely nice and I have it. The engine does turn by hand. I have the original drive shaft and transmission cross member. All chrome and stainless are in good shape. Has good BFG tires all around. Just find a wrecked 74 wagoneer and pull ignition switch (with keys), dash cluster, install a new transmission and put in a windshield. The engine alone is worth at least $4,000. Look around....these are almost non existing. They are the next rising star ....can you imagine a Bronco from the mid 70's with a 400+ c.i. engine from the factory???!!!The NADA current book value shows:1974 Custom WagoneerFull Size Jeep 401 V8 Engine20% Add for 401$5,704 Original MSRP$8,970 Low$17,760 Average$32,640 HighThe "CZ" code in the VIN designates "Custom" and "401" engine.Shipping will be from 81416 Delta, CO.
